Homework - 16/11/2016

Adolf Hitler and the Nazi party

This week's task will involve you reading / researching and then writing.

To support the work we are doing on WWII I would like you to write a short autobiography about Adolf Hitler and the Nazi party.

I would like you to use a part of HWB we haven't used as yet - Britannica School Encyclopedia. To access the Encyclopedia  - it is the 4th symbol that you see on your widget bar, see it highlighted in blue below:

Once selected type in Adolf Hitler to gain access to the article - select reading level two, which has a suitable amount of information for you to read.

Task 1: Read the whole article and write down the 10 facts that you found the most interesting about his life.

Task 2: Watch the video at the bottom of the article. Why do you think the German people followed Hitler and supported the Nazi party

Task 3: The Nazi Party: Use the encyclopedia to research about The Nazi party. I have made a new blog on J2Bloggy that I would like you to add information about The Nazi Party. Remember to ask each other questions about what you have found to ensure we get people to think and share their opinions about the research.

Task 4: The symbol of the Nazi party. Either find and draw or print out the emblem of the Nazi party (The Swastika) in your book. (You will probably recognise it when you see it) Due to its use by the Nazi party it is now widely associated with anti-Semitism and fascism but it's actual origins and meaning are nothing to with either! Write five facts about the symbol and its use in other cultures before the Nazi's adopted it.

Extension: If you have time and you'd like to do some further research have a look at the article on The Hitler Youth - particularly the video clip about the movement. If you were a child in Nazi Germany it is likely you would have joined and thought it was marvellous. Why do you think they made this group? Perhaps add some thoughts to the blog.

You can hand write the tasks or you may word process your work - using word or J2E and share it with me - it is possible to copy and paste from the article but make sure you arrange them into specific facts - not just copying large chunks of text.

Good luck!
