Here are your maths and literacy tasks for the week.
Mathematics - Make sure you have marked last weeks work before trying these tasks.
LO: To be able to answer time questions and interpret timetables.
I would like you to answer the work in your Learning Logs the same as last wee
Must - If you are on CLIC 15,16 or 17 you must complete Questions A and then move on to questions B - you could try questions C if you want to try them
Then answer London timetable questions A
If you are on CLIC 18 or higher please complete Questions B first and then question C
Then answer London timetable questions B
Extension tasks
Task 1 - Timetravellers sheet about world time zones
Task 2 - Data booklet questions 3 (only to be attempted if you are on CLIC 19 or above).
Literacy
LO: To write a collaborative balanced argument
You will be completing one more balanced argument to bring this writing genre to a conclusion. A really interesting topic 'Should all police officers carry guns?'
An interesting topic as although we do have specialist armed police units in the UK are regular police officers do not carry guns on a day to day basis. Where as if you were in most countries in Europe and many countries around the world the police officers are armed.
Do you think this would help to reduce crime or cause more problems? Thinking about our current situation and some people not listening to the governments advice about social distancing do you think a stronger police presence would encourage them to think about their actions
I have added a topic sheet to the 'balanced argument' folder in Teams to help you think of ideas, try to discuss the topic verbally with an adult before you begin writing. I would like you to plan and write your own argument over the next two days using the stimulus sheet.
Collaborative writing - in your debate teams I would like you to share your arguments with each other and then work together to write a collaborative team argument.
You will need to plan a time where you can all work online together. On J2Office (Writer) there is a tab at the top which says 'collaboration' and then you can use 'co-editing mode' this will allow you to work on the document simultaneously as a team.
Can the children I nominated to scribe on the Chromebooks during your debate planning please start a new J2Office document and call it 'Collaborative argument writing' and share it with the rest of your team by Wednesday.
It will probably be a good idea to have a conference call or team chat using teams just to have a discussion before hand about what should be the main topics of your argument and then decide upon the 5 key sections for the argument and what points you feel must, should and could be included in terms of importance. You will need to agree on some ground rules - no one is to delete or remove another persons writing - but maybe add a question or comment if you think a different opinion or that it should be reworded - offer a different way of writing it if you have another idea so that you can decide as a group.
Can everyone aim to get your first argument written by Wednesday afternoon so you can begin the collaborative argument as a team.
