Homework - I have sent home a comprehension task. The reading material is on one side of the sheet and the questions are on the rear (1 - 12) the children are to answer all questions and can write their answers onto the sheet.
During the reading test in the summer they will need to get used to answering questions and having to turn back to the reading material to check for the answer, so this will be good practice towards that. They can also underline / highlight key words in the reading material.
If the children could try to complete the task independently as we will review the answers in class, if you are supporting them, encourage them to read all the material first before answering the questions and remember to find evidence in the text that supports their answer.
Swimming - The children have been asked to bring in pyjamas again as well as their bathers. I'm not sure who will actually need them as I wasn't present last week but they all need to bring them just in case they are needed - their instructor will inform them tomorrow.
STEM project - We are going to begin the creative part of our STEM project next week. The children are going to be creating collaborative sculptures to link with our topic 'Love Where you Live' and our link with the Royal Mint.
We will be creating the Welsh flag, the school badge and an artistic mural depicting images of 'where we live.'
Thank you so much for supporting our cinema night before half term. The donated coins have allowed us to use the 1p, 2p, 5p and 10p coins to carry out a range of mathematical and scientific investigations over the past few weeks.
Even though we have amassed a massive collection of over 3,900 coins we still need more coins to be able to complete the project.
One of our investigations allowed us to calculate the surface area of all the coins once they are laid out on a flat surface. As we have three large areas of display to cover in the hall we have calculated that we will need a lot more coins to be able to complete all three sculptures between Year 3 and Year 4.
We also need to purchase some extra materials for completing the final design including Gorilla glue and paint. The school has already purchased the large sheets of MDF and other resources that will be needed to create the sculptures.
If you are able to offer a donation to help us gather enough coins for the project we would be really grateful. If everyone was able to offer about 50p then this would allow us to get the coins we need. Ideally we are looking for 5ps, 10ps and 20ps.
We are going to be using 1p and 2ps for the larger areas of our sculpture so if we need more we can change coins at the bank next week but if you have any unwanted coppers we would be grateful for the extra coins!
