Welsh towns homework
Hi all - some information linked to the discussion about our Welsh town homework task.
You need to look in our Eryri class folder - look in files and open homework - Welsh towns - homework - this doc will remind you what town you chose in the draw and we will be uploading our research to this folder (I will go over how to do this again in class).
What to do? - You need to find out information about your Welsh town. Start with the areas highlighted on the missing columns - population, county, position in Wales.
Where to research? Online - you will find some factual information in Wikipedia but do not use it as your main source of information. Most towns will have there own websites some will have been created by local historians or people interested in the town.
Libraries - Some of your town will have had books written by local historians. Can anyone find a book that contains information about their town?
What shall we research?
The content you decide to include about your town will be up to you but try and include as many interesting facts as possible. I have started a discussion on the class page - it is one of the options on the menu bar on our class page - have a look.
Here are the questions you thought up in class. If you have any other ideas about what you can research please add them to the discussion.
Was anyone famous born in your town? Does it have any wildlife? What are the tallest / biggest buildings? What are the famous / well known landmarks (eg castles, ruins, parks, memorials)?
What is the oldest part of your town / oldest building? Was there any Roman settlement in your town? Are there any sports teams in your town? What leagues would you find them in?
When was the name (as it is known today) given? Was the town founded by somebody? Any interesting historical facts / discoveries / legends linked to the town.
If you can think of any other good prompt questions please add them to the discussion.
How to present the work - I would like the work completed digitally and you may present your research using Word, Powerpoint or Sway (use the online version so it saves into your OneDrive and can be added to our new class file).
You do not have to physically present the research as we will all have access to each others research but there may be the opportunity for some people to share their research in front of the class if they wish.
You have two weeks to complete all of your research about your town. There will be some maths homework handed out next week as well so try and make a start during this week. Good luck,
