welcome to another busy week ahead at Penygawsi!
As the name suggests the concert is a whole family event and will allow our children to sing alongside the full orchestra of the WNO. It will be taking place at St David's Hall in Cardiff in May - I will send out full details of the schedule before Easter. The concert will be on general sale to the public but as a participating school, our parents and families will have access to discounted tickets to watch the children taking part.
The Jungle Book: The theme of the concert will be the animal kingdom and our children will be learning and be performing a melody of one of Disney's greatest animations - The Jungle Book, combining all the most well-known songs including The Bare Necessities and I wann be like you! On the day there will be a host of child-friendly workshops to keep families entertained during the build up to the concert.
We will be taking part in a workshop every Tuesday afternoon up until the Easter holiday and then for two more weeks after Easter until the concert date. The workshops will be run by Kate Woolveridge, who is the Vocal Animateur and Choral Leader for this project. She will be facilitating all of the rehearsal sessions along with Rhiannon Pritchard, who will be an accompanying pianist.
The concert will be compared by Mr Go Compare himself - Mr Wynne Evans who will make the event really fun for the children.

Maths: We will be continuing to work on constructing and interpreting a range of conversion graphs and charts and how these can appear in test formats. In addition we will continue to refine our skills combining fraction, decimals and percentages and how the three areas are linked.
Literacy: Again the main focus is oracy and we will continue to build up our debating skills in readiness for some formal in-class debates. We will also be writing speeches and performing them (linked to World Speech Day 2017)

Monday: Big Spelling - check up on your week 4 list of words. RNLI visit to school workshops about beach safety.
Skiing itinerary meeting at school - 4.30pm, children are welcome to attend with parents.
Tuesday: Mrs Bowhay Welsh session, WNO Family Concert - first rehearsal workshop with Kate and Rhiannon
Wednesday: Outdoor PE kit needed - football session with our Cardiff City community coach, Liam
All learning logs need to be returned to write speeches for National Speech day.
Maths homework to be sent home.
Thursday: Film club after school
Fri: Mr Wagner maths session and Big maths - no PE today
