I must say I was very impressed with the overall standard of leaflets produced for the homework task last week - some great presentation and advice given to people who may visit 2016. I will be putting the best examples on display for us to share with each other!
LO: To be able to plot coordinate points to create a shape and show skills of reflecting and translating shapes.
SC: Must: plot points accurately and join with a ruler
Should: reflect shapes accurately through at least one gradient
Could: show and ability to translate a shape accurately.
I have differentiated the homework into tasks - I would like everyone in the class to complete the must tasks and the majority of the class to complete the should task. For those who feel confident have a go at completing the could tasks.
Do not use pens when drawing shapes on your grids. Tip: use coloured pencils to colour in your shapes when you feel you have plotted them correctly for each task so it makes it easy to see which shapes are linked together.
Task 1 - Must
You have been given a piece of graph paper for homework. On your graph paper, you need to accurately draw on an x and y axis using a ruler right across the middle of the page horizontally and vertically (make sure you count the largest squares to ensure your axis are the midpoint of each side.
Draw three triangles accurately using a ruler - one right angled, one isosceles and one irregular triangle and label the coordinates on each point of the triangle (x must come before y)
Task 2 - Should
We had a practice at reflecting in class. Have a read of this page to help you remember it - there is an interactive activity halfway down the page:

Draw a quadrilateral in any one of your quadrants and reflect it accurately in all quadrants if you can.
Then have a go at drawing a more complex shape or pattern (it must contain all straight lines) then reflect it.
Task 2 extra - If you are feeling really confident add another line to either your x or y axis (all the way across the page) and draw a shape on one side of the line then reflect the shape across this new mirror line.

On your grid, draw your own shape (don’t make it too complicated and it must be drawn accurately with straight lines) and translate it. Write down the co-ordinates of your original shape. Write down how you are planning to move it (e.g. 2 up and 2 to the right) and then draw it again and write down (in your book) the new co-ordinates.
Repeat this by translating your shape again and writing down how you did it:
