Good evening all,
I hope everyone had a good first day on Friday and are now looking forward to beginning our first term as Year 6.
We joined Year 5 on Friday to introduce our new topic Y TY GLO - THE COALHOUSE
Everyone had a letter on Friday which explained a trip which is planned for Tuesday 15th September, to The Big Pit and we are asking for a contribution to cover the cost of the coach.
This is an exciting topic where we focus on historical aspects of the Welsh mining industry and its communities. We will be studying poetry, diary writing and newspaper reports based on the mining.
We will be designing and making a mine shaft or a tram for moving coal (model size).
Literacy and Language: I will be introducing a new L&L topic to the children tomorrow which we will study both fictional and non-fictional areas of writing as a focus. There will be homework tasks linked to this.
Maths: As I explained to the children on Friday we are specifically going to be looking at consolidating our number skills this term, using a new initiative 'Big Maths' which will aim to enhance our confidence and competence towards all aspects of number. Homework linked to this will be posted fortnightly.
PE: It in Y5 & Y6 schedule for swimming this term. Our first session will be on Wednesday 16th September - Our school PE days will be every other week on a Thursday (kit is needed for this week as we are not swimming)
I will post information about our first homework task tomorrow. Hope to see some of you at the skiing meeting on Tuesday after school.
Nos da,
Mr Ball
