Wow! The number of children who came to school today having read at home last night was a record high. Fantastic! Soon every single one of them will be reading for pleasure and without pressure ; )!
The skill we are working on in Guided Reading this week is; scanning text to look for key words/phrases that will help us find the answer to a question.
We have been working in groups to set each other 'Find it' questions on a shared text. We identify unusual words, words with capital letters, and words with distinguishing features from the question and then we run our eyes over the text at speed. When we identify the word/phrase, we read around it to see whether the answer we're looking for is there.
We are rehearsing this skill all week and it is the skill that our class are going to work on in their specific 15 minutes of reading time at home.
