Blwyddyn Newydd Dda everybody. I hope you had a lovely time with your friends and family. Thank you again for my lovely gifts, it was very kind of you all. It is going to be an exciting new term as we will be introducing a brand new topic as a whole school 'Love Where You Live' which we will discuss more about this week.
This term is also exciting for Year 3 as it is there first experience of the school Eisteddfod as a junior pupil and there will the chance for them to take part in several competitions to celebrate literacy, drama, music art and the Welsh language representing their school house.
Book bags - I think most book bags were left in school before the holidays. If not could you please return them on Tuesday so that we can re-allocate them during the week and get the weekly cycle up and running again.
PE sessions: We will be having some extra PE sessions as well this term to make up for some missed last term leading up to Christmas. We will be having a placement with the Cardiff City community coach, similar to what the children had last year that will include an in class - PSE session, as well as a practical PE session. This will be taking place every Wednesday afternoon starting from 16th January.
Swimming: We will also be swimming every week on a Friday. Our first swimming session will take place on Friday 18th January and will then continue up until Easter. The children will need to bring with them their bathers, goggles and a towel. These school lessons cater for all abilities from beginners to confident swimmers so the children do not need to worry, they will be grouped accordingly by the swimming instructors. The children need to be able to change themselves as quickly as possible on their own as there is another school in the pool before and after us and we all need to use the changing facilities, so it is really important that they can change as quickly as possible. I would be grateful that if they are not used to swimming if you could practice them changing (putting their own uniform into their bag and drying themselves before changing back into their uniform). I will sent a consent letter out this week to allow them to leave site on a Friday every week (we have a coach provided by the local authority to transport is to and from Llantrisant leisure centre) but I wanted to give you as much notice as possible to ensure they are confident changing themselves and to manage packing their own uniforms. They will be able to have access to a locker to keep their belongings in (they don't need money as the changing rooms are kept locked to the public during school sessions).
For this week can they bring in an out door PE kit (with trainers) on Wednesday for a PE session (If they would like to leave their outdoor kit in school ready for the Cardiff City session next week that is fine) but if they will need to bring in their kit weekly as they need their trainers outside of school that will be fine as well.
Dydd Llun: INSET training for staff today, no school for pupils
Dydd Mawrth: All pupils return to school, return book bags if you have them
Dydd Mercher: Learning logs to be returned home today for a homework task. Bring in PE kit this week please.
Dydd Gwener: Problem solving day.
I look forward to seeing you all on Tuesday morning,
diolch,
Mr Ball
