Sparky's Big Idea...
Protecting our planet and teaching children the importance of the environment and sustainability is not only part of the curriculum, but of great social significance as we strive to hand over a healthier planet to our future generations. Sparky’s Big Idea from the Police Community Clubs of Great Britain deals with the issues of recycling, sustainability and the importance of looking after the environment.
Sparky Fox tries to tell everyone to recycle and save energy but nobody will listen until the Treetop Council announce that they will need to cut down an area of forest to supply wood for the winter, this includes cutting down the tree where Echo Squirrel lives.
It’s time for change and with Sparky’s help, Echo starts an Eco Club.
The book is punctuated by activities that develop the learning objectives for the children.
Sparky’s Big Idea is a fun and interactive support to children’s citizenship education in primary schools.
As well as the story there are several activities for the children to complete. Could the children read the story have and have a go at the activities in the book (they are allowed to write in their books).

Reading bags: Most children brought in their reading bags from last year and some children still have a yellow record book. A few said that they thought their records may be at home. If you could double check before I issue a new one I would be grateful.
Book bag change over day: The children should also have taken home a book to read at home. We will be starting a new guided reading rota in class as of next week and the children need to return their book bags on the following days:
Monday - Minerva
Tuesday - Saturn
Wednesday - Jupiter
Thursday - Mars
Friday - Neptune
Spellings:
We have been doing some baseline tests in class and the children will be bringing home new home lists this week and we will have a weekly spell check on a Monday (the children will know what lists they are working on each week).
