What a wonderful start to our new topic!  The children had a fabulous day at Cilfynydd Environmental Centre.  They found themselves in a far away village in India where water was scarce and no tap was to be seen!  The children had to trek for miles through long grass to find the nearest water source, a fast flowing river.  Facing the dangers along the way they finally reached the river where they worked well in teams to fill as many jugs as possible.  Once full, they carried these jugs back to the village, through the long grass and along the dusty tracks.  As you can imagine it took quite some time to walk back with the heavy jugs in hand; twice as long as getting there to be exact.

The children found this duty tough and count themselves lucky that they do not need to walk 3 hours a day or more to reach water and even more lucky that the water they drink is clean and not full of bacteria that could harm them!

Once back at their village they had a long list of chores they needed to complete using the water they had collected.  These tasks included washing the clothes, feeding the animals, watering the crops, washing the dishes and cleaning the floors of their huts.  This was a tiring morning and the thought of walking back to the river when water ran out was a weary one.

We have decided in Year 5 and 6 to raise funds for Water Aid who will be able to provide a village in India with fresh and clean running water.  Water is the second most important element to our lives after oxygen and we have realised we take it for granted.  We are really focused and determined to raise enough money to provide clean water to at least 5 children in India.  To start this challenge off we are asking for a small donation of 50p each for a new water bottle and information pack.  we have enough for each child in Year 5 and 6.  This money alone will be enough for 2 children to have clean water.  How amazing would it be if we could reach our target?!
