Earthquake in Nepal

As a school we would like to support the DEC (Disasters Emergency Committee) in sending aid to those in desperate need in Nepal after the terrible earthquake that hit their country on 26th April.  As many of you are aware this earthquake has had devastating consequences, leaving 1000's dead and many more injured and homeless.  Just this morning a 15 year boy was rescued from the rubble.  This goes to show just how important the DEC's aid work is.

We have decided as a staff to carry out a sponsored earthquake practise tomorrow afternoon (Tuesday 5th May) in our classes.  The children have had an assembly today where both Mr Ball (KS2) and Mrs James (FP) informed the children of this horrible incident and the effects caused.  The children were very moved and agreed we should help the people of Nepal in their clean up mission.

We ask that you send a small donation in with your child tomorrow and we will send the money raised to the DEC who will, in turn, put it to good use straight away.  We decided to make a serious issue fun and interesting so that the children learn from the activity at the same time as raising money for an extremely important charity. Thank you to those who already sent your donations in on Friday.

The DEC brings 13 leading UK aid charities together in times of crisis: Action Aid, Age International, British Red Cross, CAFOD, Care International, Christian Aid, Concern Worldwide, Islamic Relief, Oxfam, Plan UK, Save the Children, Tearfund and World Vision; all collectively raising money to reach those in need quickly.  I am sure the work carried out by these amazing charities is exceptional and if we can help them with their cause it would be a worthwhile thing.  Click on the picture below if you wish to find out more about this fantastic committee and the work currently being done in Nepal.
