Dear Parents / Guardians,
We are sorry for the short notice, but our original plans for a Junior trip fell through. Therefore the Junior teachers have worked to organise alternative school trips. These trips complement the Physical Education Programme of Study in the new Wales Curriculum 2008 which all schools have started to implement since September. One of the Programmes of Study states;
’Pupils should be given opportunities to overcome challenges of a physical nature with a partner or in a small group. Adventurous activities are activities that are underpinned by problem solving, communication, leadership and teamwork and often have an outdoor living and learning focus. Activities can be pursued in new and challenging environments away from the local area.’
To support the achievement of these outcomes we intend to try new locations specialising in adventurous activities. To start we would like to take Classes 5, 6 & 7 to Boulder Climbing Centre in Cardiff and classes 8 & 9 to Heatherton Activity Centre in Pembrokeshire.
The trip to Boulders Climbing Centre is planned for Thursday 9th July and will consist of 3 hours of indoor climbing, equipment hire and expert tuition then a visit to Waterloo Gardens for lunch. The bus will leave school at 9.15 am and return before 3.30pm. We have made very effort to keep the price as low as possible and ask for contribution of £12 per child which includes tuition and transport.
The trip to Heatherton Activity centre is planned for Friday the 10th of July. With the extra distance the cost of the bus is greater and therefore we will need to ask for a contribution of £15 per pupil.
The form below is for you to show that you would be interested in your child / children going on these visits and would give your consent for their participation in the activities. Further forms will need to be completed before the visits to confirm your consent and to cover health and safety related information.
I am sure you will agree that these are exciting opportunities for the children and we hope that we will be able to make them annual events if successful.
